Cheratina a cosa serve?

Here I am again. Today I would like to talk about hair care.

I went to my hairdresser this morning, and as always, observing with deep disappointment my white wisps, she suggested dyeing, clashing, however, with my resolute desire to remain Cruella Demon-style.

Today, however, she was not resigned and tried to offer me a keratin treatment….

Keratin? But isn’t it necessary to have straight hair? (small clarification: I have an avalanche of curls that I do not intend to smooth).

Hair and Keratin

We’ve been hearing a lot about this miraculous new treatment lately, but what is it and what specifically does keratin do to our hair?

Let’s find out together!

First of all, it should be made clear that keratin is not only and solely for having beautiful straight hair; it can also be useful for untamable curlies like me.

Keratin and combing

Keratin is an amino acid-rich protein found in our bodies especially in hair and nails.

Hair, unlike skin, cannot regenerate itself so it tends to weaken over time; loss of keratin makes hair weak, brittle and dull.

Many factors can cause keratin loss:

  • Frequent use of hair dryer and straightener at high temperatures
  • Frequent dyeing, bleaching or perms
  • Use of harsh shampoos and products
  • Smoking, stress and poor nutrition
  • Prolonged exposure to the sun

Therefore, to restore life to our hair, it is necessary to supplement lost keratin.

This can be taken through dietary supplements, vials, shampoos, foams or specific treatments.

Keratin treatments can be divided into two macro groups:

  • Smoothing
This treatment is recommended for very frizzy, wavy and curly hair and for those who want extremely smooth hair.
The effect will be that of shiny hair and perfect smoothness without damaging the hair.
The smoothing effect lasts from 3 to 4 months; but it should not be confused with a perm, which is much more aggressive, as keratin allows hair to be straightened “from the inside,” giving new life to the brittle hair without damaging it.
  • Regenerating
Suitable for damaged, brittle and damaged hair. It is also recommended for thin hair.
Thanks to keratin, hair is nourished, stronger, silkier, voluminous, supple and soft. Curly and frizzy hair will finally look disciplined and easy to comb for a long time.

Keratin gets along well with dry or normal hair, while it is not recommended to use it on oily hair because it will increase its greasiness.

As we mentioned earlier, the smoothing or restructuring effect can last up to 4 months, depending on how curly and frizzy or damaged the hair was.

Hair Keratin

I know, I know, it’s not always possible to go to the hairdresser to get a full treatment, but as I mentioned earlier, there are also dietary supplements and handy do-it-yourself keratin vials to breathe life back into our damaged hair or simply to maintain the effect of treatments done for longer.

So what are you waiting for? Give your hair a gift and give it new life with keratin, it will be grateful and then you will look great with your friends showing off your shiny, defined hair.

Ps: my hairdresser was moved when I finally accepted the keratin treatment she was proposing, and I was remarkably pleased with it too!

See you in the next article!
